Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking official commented the incident left him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
